Abstract:
Abstract: Einstein’s gravity is one of the main pillars of our fundamental understanding of Nature. Except the length scales as large as the Universe today or as small as the Universe at the initial moments of the Big Bang, the theory is very successful in explaining the gravitational phenomena at any scale. In this talk, I will present modifications of Einstein’s gravity whose motivations are the large and small scale problems confronting the theory. First, I will discuss a specific Born-Infeld type modification which shares some nice properties with Einstein’s gravity. Then, I will present a specific class of metrics which provides solutions to any metric-based gravity theory.

Short Bio: Tahsin Çağrı Şişman obtained his MSc and PhD degrees from METU in 2005 and 2012 respectively. After a postdoctoral position at Centro de Estudios Cientificos (CECs) in Chile, he joined Türk Hava Kurumu University Department of Space Engineering. His research is concentrated on gravitational physics, especially alternative theories of gravitation.
