Abstract:

Ultrafast dynamics of molecules ranging from small clusters to large protein complexes are unrevealed territory and appealing research topic among the scientist. Ultrafast X-ray sources are required in order to explore such processes. Recently emerging large-scale free-electron laser facilities enable the researchers to access such light sources. However beam-time in those facilities are very limited. In this talk, complementary table-top sources based on laser technology will be reviewed and recent progresses towards table-top ultrafast X-ray sources will be presented.

 Short Bio:
Huseyin Cankaya received his BS degrees in physics (2004, Koc University) and his MS and PhD degreesin materials science and engineering (2006/2011, Koc University). After his PhD study, he joined to Center for Free Electron Laser Science (CFEL) in Deutsches ElektronenSynchrotron (DESY), Germany and he is currently working as a senior research scientist. His research interests include high-energy high-power solid-state laser/amplifier development, nonlinear optics, ultra-fast optics, ultrafast optical parametric amplifiers, ultrafast pulse characterization techniques, nonlinear spectral pulse broadening, mid-infrared lasers, laser based electron acceleration, electron-photon interaction under intense laser-field. He received SPIE scholarship in 2006, OSA student grants in 2009/2010, Successful PhD Student Award from Koc University in 2011 and Serhat Ozyar Successful Young Scientist Award in 2012.
