Abstract:

I will discuss two relatively unexplored approximations to general relativity. One deals with a covariant, nonrelativistic expansion that captures strong fields, the other is an adiabatic approximation on the space of vacuagenerated by large diffeomorphisms. What these two approaches have in common is that they consider slow time dynamics and that they are expressible in terms of interesting geometric structures.
