Abstract:
Laboratories, facilities and research activities of ITU Energy Institute will briefly be introduced. Research groups, ongoing projects and the cooperation models for University-Industry relations of the Institute are summarized. A short information about the Institute’s ITU Triga Mark-II nuclear research reactor, which is the only research reactor in operation of Turkey, and its facilities will be given.

After a brief information about ITU Energy Institute, I will focus on research activities of my “Nano Energy Research Group – NERG”. A quick review of the group’s publications will be made. In our research group, we aim to predict new behaviors arising at nanoscale due to wave nature of particles and to contribute to the development of novel nano energy devices. In this frame, NERG mainly examines the quantum size effects on thermodynamic and transport properties of confined systems. Thermosize effects (2004), quantum boundary layer (2007), discrete thermodynamics (2014) and quantum torque (2017) are some phenomena that are proposed by NERG in literature.

Bio:
He took his B.Sc from Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Mechanical Engineering Department, M.Sc and Ph.D degrees from ITU Nuclear Energy Institute. Between 2002 and 2004, he studied as a visiting scientist in Thermodynamics Institute at Technical University of Berlin. His main research areas are energy conversion at nano scale, energy storage systems, renewable energy and nuclear energy. He has more than 80 international articles and conference papers. He has two research groups; “Nano Energy Research Group (NERG)” and “New Energy Technologies Research Group (NETRG)”.

Since 2009, he has been the director of ITU Energy Institute. He conducted the modernization project of ITU Triga Mark-II Nuclear Research Reactor. Electronic and mechanical control systems of the reactor have nationally been designed and implemented during this project. He established industrially supported test and research laboratories such as “Ground Source Heat Pumps”, “Battery Technologies”, and “Cryogenic Technologies”. He initiated the establishment of “Energy Technopolis”, the first thematic technopolis of Turkey.
